Chad Burris is a member of the Chickasaw Nation and is a native of Oklahoma. Burris became Of Counsel to the law firm of Doerner, Saunders, Daniel, and Anderson in 2008 as an Of-Counsel attorney in its Indian Law section.
Burris is a graduate of the University of Tulsa Law School, where he received his J.D. with an emphasis in Indian Law. He devoted much of his time in law school toward developing programs that would attract, through federal economic development incentives, film production to Indian Country. Since law school he has represented clients throughout Indian Country on a myriad of issues.
Mr. Burris also has experience in the practice of Entertainment Law, both as an attorney and a producer of motion pictures. Burris has worked as legal counsel on several feature film projects and music ventures, as well as representation of individual artists. He has also taken on the role of producer in several projects, assuming the responsibility of identifying and negotiating large capital investments and managing the business of the film.
Burris is the owner of the Oklahoma based Indion Entertainment Group (IEG). IEG facilitates financing and production for motion picture projects shooting in Oklahoma. The company utilizes Oklahoma state tax incentives to encourage local investment in film projects. Burris realized the value of local incentives for film production and set out to construct a business model that would accommodate both in Oklahoma.
Burris is a member of Sundance Institute's Native Fellows program and is on the advisory board of the Oklahoma State Film and Music Commission. He serves as a Creative Ambassador for the State of Oklahoma through it's Creativity Initiative and is an advisory director for a local non-profit film festival. Burris, who speaks frequently on panels and conferences on film and Entertainment law, also works closely with local and state groups to encourage support of the arts in Oklahoma.
