Intellectual Property - Patent, Trademark, Copyright & Unfair Competition

Patents, trademarks, copyrights, unfair competition, trade secrets and rights of publicity are all components of our practice. The IP Department's practice includes licensing;  international and domestic preparation and procurement of patents, trademarks, and copyrights; appeals, oppositions and cancellations; patent, trademark and copyright ownership and infringement review; and intellectual property litigation before federal and state courts.

The IP Group's lawyers work with both start-up businesses and established concerns to identify, protect and enforce intellectual property rights. The Group also conducts seminars on protecting intellectual property rights, avoiding infringement liability, and managing intellectual property portfolio, and offers counseling in web- and Internet- IP compliance, entertainment law, and publishing law.

The Firm benefits from a licensed patent attorney with hands-on engineering experience, a former USPTO Trademark Examining Attorney, and dedicated paralegals with a combined quarter century of experience in IP.

The Group's international practice is supported by a global foreign associate network of lawyers and patent attorneys, and the Firm's IP litigation lawyers have accumulated significant experience within the field, including litigation and dispute resolution of issues involving patents, trade secrets, trademarks, trade dress, false and deceptive advertising, common law and statutory copyrights, and unfair competition. The subject matter addressed by our attorneys in these areas is broad and includes software, oil and gas, mechanical and engineering, chemical, medical, and general business practice issues. The intellectual property practice includes prosecuting and defending injunction actions, full trial of intellectual property issues, as well as arbitration. Our transactional attorneys are involved in negotiating and drafting software development and licensing agreements, business structuring for the development and sale of software, as well as planning for raising capital and or the purchase or sale of businesses with intellectual property assets.
